In
1875 the application of coated papers developed when Theodore Low
Devinne conceived the idea of using such paper for printing purpose
where good colour reproduction was desired.
The result of printing work was so Superior to the Super Calendered
paper in use for gravure printing, it became the standard paper
for fine half-tone printing.
The specialty coated paper industry is fairly unique in variety
of its manufacture operation and every will try to develop it own
modification of the used practice.
The actual coating process places certain demands on the base sheet.
It is classified in two main type of coaters:-
1. Contact Coaters(for example blade & bar water).
2. Non Contact Coaters(for example Air knife Coater).
CONTACT COATERS
The basic theory is that blade will ride on the high spot of base
surface.
NON CONTACT COATERS
The non-contact group of coaters is typified as the Air Knife Coater
Show. The Air Knife Coaters is sometimes called Contour Coater because
the coating tends to follow the contours of base sheet.
OUTLOOK FOR COATING PAPERS
The reasons for Coating Paper have extended for beyond the simple
requirement to improve the printing surface and add a decorative
effect. Functional demands in addition to printing, embrace the
field of packaging, building construction, plastics, office copying,
duplicating, multiple sales forms and information recording. .
